Description:
Americorps, the domestic Peace Corps, engages more than 400,000 Americans in intensive, results-driven service each year, through more than 500 programs. Most Americorps members are selected by and serve with local and national organizations like Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, Big/Brothers/Big Sisters, and Boys and Girls Clubs. Others serve in AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) and AmeriCorps*NCCC (the National Civilian Community Corps). After their termof service, AmeriCorps members receive education awards to help finance or pay back student loans.

New Horizons Independent Living Center
Description:
New Horizons encourages people with disabilities to become strong, self-advocates by assisting them to
understand their rights and to be assertive. We attempt to influence public policy, public attitudes and public
sensitivity in regards to the needs of those with all types of disabilities. We are also very active in systems
advocacy issues that include: housing, transportation, barrier removal and personal assistance services.
How you can help:
Volunteers at New Horizons do an array of office duties, typing, filing, assisting with support groups,
answering telephones and peer counseling.
