Military vets hired at police departments around the state

NEW ORLEANS - Police departments around the state received grants to hire more military veterans.
Senator Mary Landrieu announced the program and said the $1.5 million in grants will pay the salaries and benefits for 14 officers for three years.
Applicants must have served at least 180 days of "active duty service" since September 11, 2001.
The NOPD will hire nine of the officers. Others will go to St. Helena Parish and the Tangipahoa Police Department.
