Washington -- In the latest influx of federal aid for Hurricane Katrina, the Federal Emergency Management Agency released $37 million this week for the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board. The money will help fund remaining repairs for damage to the city's sewerage and water system caused by the storm and failed federal levees.

The announcement of the latest grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency was made by Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., and Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-New Orleans. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu applauded the funding.

"These recovery dollars are vitally important to ensuring that the Sewerage and Water Board continues to provide essential services to the people of New Orleans," Mayor Landrieu said. "As we continue to rebuild in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, FEMA continues to be an important partner in our recovery."
