Landrieu, Vitter introduce bill to restore the Gulf
Sen. Landrieu spoke on the Senate floor about the RESTORE The Gulf Coast Act that she and Sen. Vitter introduced. The bill calls for dedicating at least 80 percent of BP penalties paid under the Clean Water Act (CWA) to Gulf states to restore the coastal ecosystem and its economies that were damaged by the BP oil spill.
During her speech, Sen. Landrieu noted that President Barack Obama, the report issued by The National Commission on the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Navy Sec. Ray Mabus have all endorsed directing the penalty money to the Gulf Coast states.
