Landrieu Announces $1 Million Award to Louisiana Tech

Award supports economic development and environmental quality

October 13, 2011

WASHINGTON  United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La.,announced today that Louisiana Tech has been awarded a $1 million grant for its Proof of Concept Center, which supports clean energy economic development in the region. Louisiana Tech received the award through the U.S. Department of Commerce's i6 Green Challenge program.

"I have worked closely with the leadership of Louisiana Tech University to provide key infrastructure that is essential for innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development," Sen. Landrieu said. "The award will support the university's efforts to accelerate technology transfer from the university to commercialization partners throughout the region. These companies will ensure that innovative green technology ideas go from the manufacturing stage into homes at a faster rate."

The i6 Green Challenge program supports innovative ideas that enable technology commercialization, job creation and economic growth.  Louisiana Tech's center focuses on increasing the speed with which green technology innovations enter the market. It does this by supporting all phases of the entrepreneurial process from assisting with technology feasibility and business plan development, to providing access to early-stage capital and mentors to offer critical guidance to innovators.

"We are delighted to have representatives from the EDA and our legislative and business leaders here on the Louisiana Tech campus to share in our excitement for this Proof of Concept Center," Louisiana Tech President Dan Reneau said.  "This grant will greatly help to strengthen the production and promotion of technologies coming out of Louisiana Tech and into the marketplace."

Louisiana Tech's Proof of Concept Center will support companies that focus on renewable energy, restoration, energy efficiency, and more.  The Proof of Concept Center serves the I-20 corridor in northern Louisiana, south Arkansas, west central Mississippi and northeast Texas.

In May 2011, Sen. Landrieu wrote to the Economic Development Administration in support of Louisiana Tech's Proof of Concept Center. To read the letter, please visit:
